American Birding Association (ABA) podcast: Lively weekly talks on birding, bird-friendly travel and conservation, hosted by Nate Swick.
The ABA podcast offers a sobering recap of the 2025 State of the Birds report, an annual assessment of the health of our nation’s bird populations. The 2025 report found birds across most habitats have suffered major losses since 1970, with significant downward trends for grassland and aridland species. Even waterfowl have seen their numbers drop.
On a more uplifting note, I loved the ABA podcast’s episode with acclaimed Central Park birder and science writer Christian Cooper about his new children’s book, The Urban Owls: How Flaco and Friends Made the City their Home. Cooper is the author of Better Living through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World (which is on my must-read list.)
